A dinner date with destiny?

What can I say; this is the best place to go on a first date. Inamo on Wardour Street has enough to keep you busy and talk about to break even the thickest of ice.

In the heart of Soho this place is a fusion of Asian dishes: Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese. The gimmick is a big projector above the table that blasts images down, it allows you to play games, choose your dish, change the colour of your tablecloth or even make it look like a disco – plenty of amusement, even for kids.

With a little finger tap on the pictures and icons you choose anything you want. And you can get the bill yourself, check it first on the table then have it delivered to you.

You can flick through the menu and not only does a description and price come up but the food is projected onto your plate! It almost looks real.

You can even play games like memory, puzzle and battleships. Battleships is the game for this night and I decided to take on my friend Eric; I’m sinking his ship!

Or if your date is boring you to death, just watch the kitchen cook your food via live video camera – super cool!

With a gimmick like this you might expect rather ordinary food, but I gladly can report that it is really beautiful. And it’s so easy to order you will just keep hitting that table and have more and more appear in front of you.

The service is good and speedy. Be careful not to get too excited though. You have to order all at the same time as the food comes out as it is ordered and not all together. Great if you’re sharing but no fun if your date is watching you stuff your face.

For any restaurant to get my approval there needs to be some great desserts. Although there are only four or five sweets on the menu, the white mousse macaroons were awesome!

I can’t wait until it gets to the point that you can take on other people at other tables at a game of battleships or monopoly.

If you’re going on an awkward dinner date or you don’t know the person who you’re going out with or you’ve got a great group of friends who just like a laugh then head here. Make sure you book a table first.
